Share Certificates (often known as certificates of deposit, or CDs at banks), offer our members higher earnings than what is traditionally paid to a share (savings) account, and the comfort of knowing that their savings are Federally Insured up to $250,000.
How does a Share Certificate work?
When you place your money (minimum of $1,000), into a share certificate, you earn interest from the day the certificate is created to the end of the term you select. And certificates can be set to any term – from six months to five years.
When the certificate term ends, the funds can be placed back into your savings or checking account, rolled over into a new share certificate, sent out in a check to you, or even electronically transferred to another financial institution.
What is the interest rate on a Share Certificate?
Rates on new certificates change frequently, though the rate on your certificate stays fixed for whatever term you select. Currently, new share certificate rates are as follows (effective 11/18/2025):
| Term | APR | Min. Balance |
|---|---|---|
| 6 months - 5 years | 1.10% | $1,000 |
| Special 8-month Certificate for Individuals | 3.25% | $1,000 |
| Special 8-Month Certificate for Churches | 3.50% | $1,000 |
Are there any fees or penalties?
There are no setup or ongoing fees on share certificates. However, if you choose to redeem your certificate before the end of its term, there is a penalty up to 90 days interest.
